I came up with the idea when my girlfriend was playing a netball match. As the game progressed my memory started deteriorating. The names of the people who I have just met were lost and as well as the personal score tracking system I was using (my brain).
When the game was over I had no recollection of the score. The cause of the mental loss was never found and as such many theories came to mind. My first theory was the cold weather and the time was rather late (8.30pm). Another theory was that watching my girlfriend jump up and down was a distraction. Although it was never proven to be a likely option. At the end of the netball game I was very confused with the score as well as the mixed emotion from the teams. Both teams where very pleased with how they played, thus making it more difficult to tell the score. I contemplated asking my girlfriend but dismissed the idea as this would have meant my untimely disappearance. Another plan was to ask a random person. As I looked around at the familiar faces I found that I had forgotten the names of these people. I couldn't shout "OY!", as this would be rude.
I then came to the conclusion that this game score would then not be known as the obstacles where too grand. A large bulb then appeared above my head, it was super bright and made a large commotion. I then declared that I shall create an android app for games such as these. The app will be colourful and full of numbers and that I shall no longer be crushed with the humiliation of forgetting the scores of BOTH teams.
During my development of the application I did not encounter many obstacles. As my idea was straight forward and the initial idea was not huge, I thought this would be a cinch. My first obstacle was the layout of the app. My first initial thoughts were towards two teams. Now, I am not a sporty guy so this idea was later squished by reviews. The next idea was to create a score counter to track all the scores for a range of games such as: netball (four quarters x two teams = 8), football (two halves x two teams = 4), hockey, etc. As different games have different types of scoring I chose to keep the tally at +1, as TallyScore would be universal. With these different amounts of score-keeping in mind I went on to create multiple pages with a range of tallies. As I went on creating these layouts, I began to notice the scaling of each page. The text would be smaller with each tally increment. Thus TallyScore was finished with a max of 8 tallies. The next step was to create a DE-increment of each tally. this was fun for the reason that I could then design a small shape for it. After a lot of testing with different shapes and objects I settled with a basic triangle as this wouldn't reduce the size of the tallies. To design the triangle I used a pixel by pixel method. This was very time consuming as I needed to create many shapes for the app to test.
Today I stand as a proud man, as my first app creeped on the market and therefore giving me a solid place in Darksteel Software.
